VACANCY FOR
Fitzrovia Chapel TRUSTEE

The Fitzrovia Chapel Foundation looks after the chapel and offers opportunities to visit, enjoy cultural experiences and learn about our history. An enchanting jewel of Byzantine-inspired architecture in the heart of Fitzrovia, the chapel was formerly part of the Middlesex Hospital and remains a place of meaning, memory, and sanctuary for many.

Today, it is also an enriching cultural space for creative health, wellbeing, and artistic exploration. Open to everyone, it welcomes visitors to explore, reflect and be inspired.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Trustees play a vital role in the governance and strategic direction of the Foundation. Working
alongside fellow trustees and a small, dedicated staff team, you will help ensure the chapel
remains:

  • Well cared for and protected for future generations.
  • Financially sustainable.
  • An engaging and interesting space for cultural and community events.
  • Open, accessible, and relevant to diverse audiences.

This is a voluntary role, but expenses will be covered.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. In
particular, we would be interested to hear from individuals with skills or experience in:

  • Legal, governance, or risk management
  • Heritage, conservation, or historic buildings
  • Marketing, communications, or audience development
  • Community engagement, culture, or the arts

You do not need prior trustee experience.

WHAT’S INVOLVED

  • Attending approximately four board meetings per year (usually in London, with hybrid
    options).
  • Reading board papers and contributing thoughtfully to board discussions.
  • Supporting the charity’s long-term vision and good governance.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Chapel.

Trustees are also directors of the company limited by guarantee and share collective
responsibility for the charity’s leadership.

You will be part of a friendly team of fellow trustees, staff and volunteers, with regular
opportunities to socialise.

Trustees will be provided with an induction pack and training and
development is encouraged.

Our Commitment to Inclusion
We welcome and encourage applications from individuals who are under-represented on
charity boards, including disabled people, younger applicants and people from minoritised
ethnic backgrounds.

Board meetings are hybrid – trustees are encouraged to attend meetings in person at the
Chapel (the building has step-free access) but all meetings will also take place on Zoom.
Trustee expenses (including travel and childcare) will be covered.
