Scorched

8 May 2019 11:00 - 12 May 2019 17:00

London Craft Week presents its first show. Guest curated by Sarah Myerscough, Scorched is an exhibition of scorched wood pieces by leading contemporary artists and designers. The traditional process of shou-sugi-ban (yakisugi) is a technique originating in Japan in the 18th century which involves the slight charring of the surface of wood. Although it carries a strong cultural significance, this exhibition comes from a clear Western perspective.

Artists were asked to consider the process of scorching in their practice and how in turn that reflects upon the material. They include Alison Crowther, David Gates, Christopher Kurtz, Eleanor Lakelin, John Makepeace, Peter Marigold, Malcolm Martin & Gaynor Dowling, Gareth Neal, Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley, Wycliffe Stutchbury and Nic Webb.

This exhibition is free.
